Leading Cancer Institute Technology
Innovative, Advanced Treatment from Thibodaux Regional Cancer Institute
Thibodaux Regional Health System invests in the latest technologies to
help diagnose and treat our patients—including those receiving care in our Cancer Institute. Thibodaux Regional has invested
in innovative technology that is better, safer, and faster.
Thibodaux Regional Cancer Institute Radiation Oncology has been awarded
accreditation by the American College of Radiology (ACR) for a three-year
term. The ACR seal of accreditation represents the highest level of quality
and patient safety.
Accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting specific Practice Guidelines
and Technical Standards developed by ACR after a peer-review evaluation
by board-certified radiation oncologists and medical physicists who are
experts in the field. The ACR is the nation’s oldest and most widely
accepted radiation oncology accrediting body, with over 700 accredited
sites, and 30 years of accreditation experience.
Thibodaux Regional’s Cancer Institute Radiation Oncology was rigorously
evaluated based upon patient care and treatment, patient safety, personnel
qualifications, equipment requirements, and quality assurance and control
procedures. Through the accreditation, the Cancer Institute ensures that:
- National accepted standards of care are met;
- Personnel are qualified and certified to administer the radiation therapy
treatments;
- And the Cancer Center meets or exceeds quality assurance and safety guidelines.
TrueBeam Linear Accelerator
The TrueBeam® system is a fully-integrated system for image-guided
radiotherapy and radiosurgery, and is designed to treat moving targets
with advanced speed and accuracy. The TrueBeam system treats cancer anywhere
in the body where radiation treatment is indicated, including lung, breast,
prostate and head and neck. The PerfectPitch 6 degrees of freedom table
provides advanced robotics for accurate patient setup which improves target
positioning during radiation treatments.
TrueBeam ExacTrac Image Guided Radiotherapy
Brainlab’s ExacTrac provides an integrated work flow with Varian’s
TrueBeam. ExacTrac Image Guided Radiotherapy ensures sub-millimetric precision
during radiotherapy and radiosurgery treatments. This in-room X-Ray based
monitoring system has the ability to detect intra-fractional tumor motion
during treatment delivery. Instantaneous X-Ray images provide clinicians
with precise image fusion based on internal anatomy. A game-changing leap
in innovation, the True Beam with ExacTrac performs many different treatment
techniques such as stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) and stereotactic
radiosurgery (SRS). With its power and flexibility, clinicians can develop
treatments that are best suited for patients’ individual circumstances.
Brachytherapy
High Dose Rate Brachytherapy treats cancer from the inside by using a radioactive
source contained within an after-loader device. The after-loader delivers
the source of radiation for a brief period of time placed at the tumor
site. The goal is to conform the radiation to the size and shape of the
target while limiting side effects by sparing the surrounding healthy anatomy.
RapidArc Radiation Therapy Treatment
Faster, more precise cancer treatment technology, RapidArc delivers a
tightly-focused beam of radiation directly to the tumor in less than two
minutes. Treatment can be delivered from nearly any angle. This results
in better tumor targeting and less damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
It also reduces the amount of time a patient spends in radiation treatment.
PET/CT Scanner
Thibodaux Regional's state-of-the-art Positron Emission Tomography/
Computed Tomography (PET/CT) Scanner more accurately detects cancer and
pinpoint its exact location. Our new PET/CT allows us to detect tumors
as small as 2mm. Not only does this technology provide a higher quality
image, and earlier, more precise detection, but patients receive up to
40% less radiation exposure.
Several Treatment
Options
Our Cancer Institute employs oncology and chemotherapy certified nurses
who provide the latest in chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and/or targeted
therapy in a comfortable, soothing environment. Patients are encouraged
to have family or friends visit during treatment.
Clinical Trials
We provide our patients with access to the latest experimental cancer
treatments through investigational clinical trials. The cancer doctors
are always evolving and adapting the latest treatments to provide the
best care possible.
Expert Breast Cancer Care
Thibodaux Regional treats five times more breast cancer patients than any
other facility in the region. Skilled physicians, surgeons, and oncologists
work together at Thibodaux Regional Cancer Institute to provide breast
conserving therapies offering an optimal chance for cure. The caring team
of specialists and state of the art technology deliver the results—a
breast cancer survival rate significantly higher than the national average.
As the first to offer 3D Mammography with AI, we’re making detection
and screening for breast cancer more accurate, more comfortable and safer.
This life-saving technology means greater quality and precision than ever before.
As we continue our commitment to improving breast health, Thibodaux Regional
offers a Breast Health Navigation Program that assists patients in receiving
faster diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.
Our state-of-the-art MRI can detect breast lesions that were previously
undetectable. The advanced capabilities mean faster, more accurate diagnosis
and treatment.
Consider the following breast cancer facts:
- The average breast lump discovered by occasional self-examination is .984
inches in diameter.
- The average breast lump discovered by traditional mammograms is .787 inches
in diameter.
- The average breast lump discovered by digital mammograms is .236 inches
in diameter.
Better technology means earlier detection, more effective treatments, and
higher survival rates. For more information on our Thibodaux Regional
