Thibodaux, Louisiana- July 21, 2011 - Thibodaux Regional Health System
is pleased to announce the addition of Ryan J. Matherne, MD, dermatologist,
to the active medical staff. He has joined the practice of Dr. John J. Jones.
A native of Raceland, Dr. Matherne received his undergraduate degree in
Biology from Nicholls State University. He earned his medical degree from
Louisiana State University School of Medicine in New Orleans where he
served as Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society chapter president during
his senior year. Dr. Matherne completed his Internship in Internal Medicine
at Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge, and then completed Dermatology
specialty training at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston,
Texas. During his final year of residency, he served as Chief Resident
and was awarded the faculty award for excellence in Dermatology research.
Dr. Matherne subsequently remained at the University of Texas for an additional
year of training in Dermatopathology, which involves the interpretation
of skin biopsy slides. He also served as instructor of Dermatology during
this fellowship year.
Dr. Matherne is Board Certified by the American Board of Dermatology, and
is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society
of Dermatopathology, and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.
He has published articles in several scientific journals and has been
involved in multiple Dermatology presentations at scholarly meetings.
Dr. Matherne enjoys teaching and will hold an adjunct position of Assistant
Clinical Professor in the LSUHSC Department of Dermatology. His interests
include adult and pediatric medical Dermatology, Dermatopathology, skin
cancer prevention and treatment, and cosmetic Dermatology.
