Thibodaux Regional Health System Infection Control
Thibodaux Regional Health System takes infection control and prevention
very seriously. Greg Stock, CEO of Thibodaux Regional Medical Center,
states. “We have declared war on hospital-acquired infections. We are engaging our entire staff in the crusade to eliminate infections.
This may be an audacious goal, but we feel confident in our ability to
achieve it. For us, average performance is not good enough. We will not
rest until we have pursued every avenue available to eliminate infections.”
Thibodaux Regional Health System continues to leverage advanced methods
and practices to deploy effective strategies centered around patient safety
and infection prevention. The old adage has never been truer: An ounce
of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Never Underestimate the Importance of Hand Washing
Hand washing is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of
infection. At Thibodaux Regional we take hand washing very seriously and
encourage patients and visitors to do the same. According to Thibodaux
Regional's hand hygiene policy, all staff are required to clean their
hands before and after routine patient care activities and after hand-contaminating
activities. In order to ensure that proper hand hygiene is being performed,
the hospital provides its staff, patients and visitors with ABHR (alcohol-based
hand rub) and antimicrobial soap to be used.
Antibiotic Resistance
Antibiotic resistance presents a threat to the health of our communities.
Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria develop the ability to defeat
the drugs designed to kill them. Each year in the United States, at least
2 million people get infected with antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and
at least 23,000 people die as a result. Learn more about the dangers of
antibiotic resistance on the Centers for Disease Control's website
here.
We at Thibodaux Regional are committed to infection control and prevention.
Thibodaux Regional Health System efforts protect our patients, visitors,
and employees from infection.
